Lions complete the sweep with 6-4 win at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Missouri Southern baseball team got another three home runs today as the Lions held on to defeat Flagler 6-4 to finish off the series sweep.
 
Southern (3-0) got homers from Matt Miller, Henry Kusiak and Grant Harris on the day. Troy Gagan was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Dexter Swims and Tommy Stevenson had an RBI, as well. Five different Lions drove in runs today.
 
Zach Parish started and went five innings, striking out six and allowing just three hits to pick up the win. Corey Cowan threw an inning in relief, striking out one, while Chase Beiter, Cole Woods and Scott Duensing all threw in relief, as well. Duensing picked up the save.
 
Flagler (0-3) got a pair of RBIs from Ashton Thomas.
 
The Lions got on the board first with back-to-back home runs from Miller and Kusiak to go up 2-0. Flagler answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning and both teams were scoreless over the fifth and sixth innings.
 
The Lions scored a run in the seventh on Harris’ third home run of the series to go up 3-1. Gagan added an RBI double in the eighth, while Swims and Stevenson picked up RBIs in the ninth to give the Lions a 6-1 lead.
 
Flagler threatened with three runs in the ninth, but Duensing finished off the save.
 
The Lions stole five bases in the game, led by a pair from Jordan Fitzpatrick. Stevenson, Gagan and Kinder had a double each.
 
Southern will be back in action on February 19 when the Lions play host to the MIAA/GLVC Crossover at Warren Turner Field.
