NEOSHO, Mo. — The Carthage High School Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead Monday en route to a 65-44 win on the road against Neosho.
“We played with great energy tonight,” Carthage Head Coach Scott Moore said. “I am really proud of our effort on both ends of the floor.”
Kianna Yates scored her 1,500th career point with her 10th point of the game in the second quarter. Yates is 35 points away from breaking the schools all-time scoring record with a game against Cassville yet to come, along with the district tournament in March.
“It was great to see Kianna get that 1,500 point milestone tonight,” added Moore. “She’s such an incredible player, amazing teammate and all-around great kid. The best part was seeing how happy her teammates were for her when we stopped the game to honor her. They truly understand how special of a player she is.”
Overall, the Tigers had three score in double-digits with Yates leading the way with 23 points. Maggie Boyd added 16 points and Lauren Choate finished with 13 points. Landry Cochran scored six points, while Lexa Youngblood and Ashlyn Brust added four points and three points respectively.
“Maggie and Lauren shot the ball really well tonight,” Moore said. “If teams are going to pack the paint to stop Kianna from penetrating, we have to be able to shoot them out of their zones. We did that tonight by hitting 12 threes during the game.”
The Lady Tigers travel to Cassville to finish out the regular season Thursday.
