Wildcats gain back title in annual Black and Blue Brawl

The Neosho Wildcats’ lineup in last Tuesday’s Black and Blue Brawl overpowered the Tiger wrestling team with a 42-30 victory.  The Tigers had a strong start with pins  by Tanner Putt at 106, Alberto Sales at 113 and Grady Huntley at 120 respectively.  Sophomore Israel Perez took a tough loss by fall to Neosho’s Fisher Butler, as did Blayne Benefiel for the Tigers at 138 lbs.  Bradyn Tate received a forfeit at 132 lbs., and then Kip Castor pulled through with an 8-2 win at 144 lbs. over Josh Scheuerman, followed by Grey Petticrew’s pin over Chase Kivett at 150 lbs.

Unfortunately, Neosho powered back with a pin at 157 lbs. over Trey Nye, and a close decision by Eli Zar over 165 lb. Davion King.  This was King’s first loss on the season, and is a matchup that will happen again in both conference and districts.  Gabe Lambeth ended the evening with an overtime loss to Gabriel Busteed at 175 lbs. and open weight classes at 190, 215 and 285 lbs. forced a Tiger loss.

Carthage is back in action on January 24 at 5:30 pm at Webb City and January 26 at Springfield Central for a double dual versus Central and Waynesville.  On January 28th, the Tigers head to the COC Tournament in Webb City.
