The Lady Tiger varsity team kept pressure on the No. 5 state ranked Nixa Eagles on the defensive side of the ball, but were unable to get the offense going during Friday night’s matchup at the Carthage High School.

“We had two great practices leading into tonight and I felt we could pull off the upset and we almost did,” Carthage Coach Scott Moore said. “Our girls played great on-ball defense tonight. Im so proud of the effort on the defensive end.”

Despite Kianna Yates and Lauren Choate both scoring in double digits, the Tiger offense struggled with inconsistent shooting for most of the game. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Tigers were only trailing by one point 38-37, but a 14-8 run by Nixa sealed the win for the Eagles.

“We need to focus more on the offensive end,” said Moore. “We aren’t going to win many games by scoring in the 40s, we’ve got to make more shots at all three levels of the court: in the paint, mid-range and three-point line.”
