Kianna Yates scored inside and out at will with seven 2-pointers, six 3-pointers and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line while the total team defense also set the tone in the Carthage Tigers opening round win over Cassville in the 2022 Pittsburg Tournament.
“When (Kianna’s) on fire, there isn’t much the other team can do to stop her,” Carthage High School Coach Scott Moore said.
Yates had a game high 34 points, five more than the entire Cassville roster combined, in the 63-29 victory.
“Our full court press and overall ball pressure kept Cassville from running any resemblance of offense, which is what our goal is every night,” added Moore.
Maggie Boyd was second on the team in scoring with 9 points on three, 3-pointers followed by Presley Probert’s 5 points. Landry Cochran added 4 points and Lauren Choate chipped in with 3 points while Raven Probert, Jaidyn Brunnert, Daniela Marquez and Sophie Shannon added 2 points apiece.
The Tigers face Carl Junction in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m Friday, Jan. 21.
