The Carthage Tiger baseball team traveled to Willard Thursday to face the undefeated Willard Tigers (7-0).
Nolan Brown (2-1, 0.76 ERA) started for Carthage and went six innings allowing five hits and one earned run in the 1-0 loss. Willard pushed across the winning run in the fifth playing small ball. A single, a sacrifice bunt and another single proved to be the deciding factor.
Carthage couldn’t get much going on offense with only two hits – both coming from Taylor Stevens-Diggs.
Both Carthage and Willard committed one error each.

On Friday, Carthage traveled to Monett to face the Cubs.
Eider Lyckman started for the Tigers and pitched two innings allowing two runs – both unearned – on three hits.
Blayne Lilienkamp relieved Lyckman and went two innings allowing two runs – one earned – on one hit.
Brady Carlton pitched one and two-thirds innings and Brodie Cole (1-4, 7.95 ERA) pitched one-third of an inning in the 6-4 loss. Cole gave up two earned runs on one hit.
The Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the third on a single from Langston Morgan and a double by Ty Perry. Carthage added an additional run in the fourth on a double from Stevens-Diggs that scored Brayden Tate.
Monett took the lead for good in the fifth scoring four runs.
Carthage (8-7) faces Carl Junction Tuesday at MSSU at 4:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled at Carl Lewton Stadium, but storm damage to the stadium has moved the game to a neutral location in Joplin.
