TOPEKA, Kan. — The 16th-ranked Missouri Southern baseball team fell 10-3 today in a non-conference mid-week game at Washburn.
The Lions (24-11) got a hit each from Matt Miller and Alex Phillips, while Cole McBride drove a run in and Miller, Mike Million and Alex Phillips scored a run each. The Lions picked up three stolen bases today from Landers, Phillips and Jon Leighton.
Cole Woods started and went into the fourth inning for the Lions, but was saddled with the win, moving to 0-1 on the season. Colin Chandler, Joey Reeves and Cole Gacke threw in relief with Reeves and Gacke holding the Ichabods scoreless in the final four innings.
Washburn (15-17) got a strong pitching performance from their staff as the Ichabod hurlers limited the Lions to just two hits. Brady Hoover drove in three, while Steven Jacobson and Wyatt Featherson drove in two each.
Washburn scored two in the first, but the Lions answered with a pair of their own in the second as Million scored on a wild pitch and Phillips scored an unearned run when a throw trying to get Leighton at second went awry.
Washburn added eight runs over the fourth and fifth innings, before the Lions added a run in the eighth on an RBI from McBride, scoring Miller.
Southern will be back in action this weekend as the Lions get back into MIAA play taking on Southwest Baptist in Bolivar.
