EDMOND, Okla. — Zach Parish struck out 14 and the Missouri Southern baseball team scored seven unanswered runs, helping the Lions to a 7-1 win at No. 34 ranked Central Oklahoma today on Wendell Simmons Field.
The Lions (8-3, 1-0 MIAA) scored three runs in the second, one in the fourth, two in the sixth and one more in the seventh to cruise to the win.
Parish allowed a single run in the first, but struck out 14, en route to his second win of the season (2-0). He scattered five hits and walked just one. Cam Bednar through the final two outs, striking out both batters he faced.
Matt Miller went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored as he added his first collegiate home run. Dexter Swims had three hits, an RBI and a run, also adding a double and a stolen base. Alex Phillips had two hits, including a triple and an RBI, while Davin Gummere drove in two and scored a run. Mike Million and Ryan Hunter scored a run each.
After UCO (6-3, 0-1) scored a run in the top of the first, the Lions answered with three runs in the second. Swims doubled home Hunter, before Miller scored on an RBI from Gummere. Swims then scored on a passed ball to put the Lions up 3-1 after two.
Miller homered in the fourth to make the score 4-1, then drove in Million in the sixth for the first run of the inning. Gummere then added an RBI groundout in the inning to put the Lions up 6-1, scoring Miller in the process.
The Lions added a single run in the ninth when Phillips tripled to center, scoring Gummere.
