JOPLIN, Mo. — The nationally-ranked Missouri Southern men’s and women’s track and field teams have qualified 19 individuals for the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The event will take place on May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M University – Kingsville.
The No. 4 ranked women have qualified 12 individuals in 14 events, while the No. 20 ranked men have qualified seven individuals in eight events. It is the deepest group and most individuals ever to qualify for the Missouri Southern program.
Leading the way for the women are a talented group of throwers. The Lions qualified four individuals in the javelin, have two qualifiers in the shot put and discus and another in the hammer throw.
Desirea Buerge and Payton Roberts both qualified for the shot and the discus, while Kirsten Leisinger has qualified in the hammer throw. Morgan Ash and Elizabeth Pomatto are the top two performers in the javelin and they will be joined by Katelyn Mooney and Alexis Kuehl.
Emily Presley is the top-ranked pole vaulter and she is one of three Lions competing in the event, joined by Elena Bisotto and Lauren Sutherland. Claire Luallen has qualified in the long jump, while Morgan Smith will take part in the 100m hurdles.
On the men’s side, Rajindra Campbell leads a group of throwers that again are impressive this year. Campbell has qualified in the shot and the discus, while Travis Petersen and Josh Fulmer will compete in the hammer. Rajheim Carby will take part in the javelin.
Josh Norville will compete in the long jump, while Adrain Broadus and Kennan Harrison will take part in the triple jump.
