SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Lady Tigers defeated Buffalo 46-40 Thursday to move on to the consolation semifinals of the Pink and White Tournament in Springfield.

“The girls gutted out a close game today against a gritty Buffalo team,” said Carthage Coach Scott Moore. “We didn’t shoot particularly well, but we made enough good plays and hit enough shots to win.”

“We knew that Buffalo would battle us for all 32 minutes. We saw that in them against Ozark the night before. I’m proud of our girls for responding to that challenge and battling back against the Bison.”

Junior Lexa Youngblood led the Tigers in scoring with 14 points.

“Lexa used every ounce of her athletic ability today on both ends of the floor,” Moore added. “She guarded a skilled post player on one end and then took that same player off the dribble on the other end. I thought she carried us at times today.”

Junior Maggie Boyd was second on the team in scoring with 13 points.

“Maggie is finding her rhythm offensively now, which gives us a triple threat on offense with Lexa and Lauren. Maggie has always been known as a great defender, today she was more aggressive offensively and that was great to see for our team’s success!”

Other scorers for the Tigers were Lauren Choate, 9 points, Ashlyn Brust, 6 points and Jaidyn Brunnert, 4 points.

The Tigers play Greenwood, Mo., at 11 a.m. Saturday.
