NEOSHO, Mo. — The Neosho Wildcats hosted a double dual last Tuesday with the Carthage Tigers and Joplin Eagle wrestling teams. The Tigers and Eagles faced off first, with the Carthage men winning eight of the twelve head-to-head matches. Randy Teo (106), Tanner Putt (120), Grady Huntley (132) and Steve Serious (190) all recorded pins in their respective matches, while Caden Groom (126) got the technical fall. Joplin fought the good fight with a few pins at 113, 157 and 285, but found themselves outmatched in the dual, despite two Carthage open weights at 165 and 215 pounds.
The junior varsity and girls’ teams dominated the Eagles in their respective contests. JV boys won nine of ten matchups, and the girls lost only one match score to an open weight class forfeit at 235 pounds. Maylee Brown (110), Diana Juarez (120) and Irish Lee (140) were the only head-to-head matches on the evening, and all brought home the win with a fall. The girls’ jv contest had only one match, and Ari Morga Zaldivar (110) squeaked by with the tiebreaker win over her Eagle opponent.
As expected, Neosho proved to be a tougher foe. Carthage recorded three wins on the night at 120 (senior, Tanner Putt), 126 (sophomore, Caden Groom) and 150 pounds (senior, Aydan Nye). Both Putt’s and Groom’s matches were won 1-0, while Nye got the technical fall. The rest of the dual went all the Wildcats’ way, as their team recorded six falls in the eight remaining head to head matchups.
The junior varsity boys fared better with victories in four of the seven matches wrestled, with pins by Uziel Teo (126) and Jace Nichols (138). The varsity lady tigers’ depth in the lineup proved valuable, as they pulled out the victory over the lady wildcats, 42-30. Head-to-heads were matched evenly, as Neosho won three matches, as did Carthage.
