Joplin, Mo. – Missouri Southern senior pitcher Will Bausinger went the distance and set the MSSU career strikeout record in the process as the Lions completed the sweep of visiting Emporia State with a 7-0 win in the series finale today at Warren Turner Field.

Bausinger struck out 14 batters and walked just one as he shutout the Hornets (2-5, 0-3 MIAA) limiting them to just three hits. Bausinger now has 279 strikeouts in his career, passing Payton Walker who previously had the record of 269.

Southern (9-0, 3-0 MIAA) got a run in the second when Joe Kinder singled home Dexter Swims to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Both teams remained scoreless until the sixth when the Lions broke out for four runs. Grant Harris dobuled down the left field line to score Swims, while Kinder followed that up with a double of his own, scoring Harris and Matt Miller. Kinder then scored on a wild pitch to put the Lions up 6-0 after six.
