Rowland Clarence Diggs, Sr., born on December 21, 1935, in Neosho, Missouri, peacefully passed away on June 3, 2024, in Carthage, Missouri, at the age of 88. He led an exciting life in the National Guard and worked hard to provide for his family.
Rowland married Gloria Ann Smith on June 7, 1956.
Rowland was a dedicated member of the Missouri National Guard for 42 years. He served his country with honor and distinction.
In his career, Rowland worked hard on the family farm then as a machinist for Rocketdyne in Neosho, Missouri, where the Titan II rocket engine that powered the Gemini and Apollo space programs were built. He also worked as a manger for General Irrigation in Carthage, Missouri, and at various local machine shops later in his career.
In his retirement years, he cared for his wife Gloria and wrote and published several local Carthage Military history books, showcasing his passion for history and storytelling.
Rowland is survived by his four sons, Rex Diggs, RC Diggs, Tony Diggs, and Greg Diggs. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren, Tris, Jamie, Russell, Margaret, Justin, Craig, Logan, and Blaine; as well as 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Ann (Smith) Diggs; his parents, Clarence, and Opal Diggs; and his brothers, Richard Diggs, and Robert Diggs.
Rowland Clarence Diggs will be dearly missed by all who knew him, his legacy will live on through his family and his contributions to his community.
A double memorial graveside service will be held at 10 am, Monday, June 10, 2024, at Gibson Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri, for Rowland and Gloria. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
