Robert (Bob) Major Swift, 73, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Bob was born on July 20, 1950, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to William (Bill) Swift and June Marie (Fisher) Swift; both have preceded him in death.
Bob was raised in St. Joseph and attended Missouri Western College there. He graduated with a degree in Education. He dedicated 31 years working for the railroad at the St. Joe Terminal in St. Joe, United Pacific Railroad in Kansas City, and in Omaha, Nebraska. He retired in 2008. Bob enjoyed the Chiefs and Husker Football, Royals Baseball, fishing, golf, a glass of red wine, and Chips Ahoy Cookies. He was a member of the Omaha Blues Society and a regular attendee of live music performances. After living in Omaha, Nebraska for 30 years, he moved to Carthage with his wife Becky in 2019.
Bob was united in marriage to Rebecca (Becky) Dame on October 2, 2006, in Omaha, Nebraska; she survives.
Along with Becky, Bob is survived by his daughter, Regina Schmitz (Tim); one brother, David Swift (Connie); two nephews, Brian Swift (Kelli) and one son, and Todd Swift (Jane) and three children; one sister Gwynnie Mejia, deceased, (David); two nieces Christi Hughes (Chuck) and three children, Katee Cunningham (Alisa) and daughter; one nephew Bradley Mejia and daughter.
A memorial service is scheduled for Bob at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Ulmer Funeral Home.
