Phyllis Pauline (Hamilton) Talley, 79, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023. She was born in Pierce City, Missouri, on August 27, 1943, to Fred Hamilton and Pauline (Russow) Hamilton. Phyllis lived in Carthage most of her adult life with a short time spent in Palo Alto, California. Phyllis attended M.S.S.C., alongside her children, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She then continued her education at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, where she earned her Master’s Degree. Phyllis worked for Leggett and Platt, H.E. Williams, and Belk Simpson prior to becoming a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Brian Talley (Amy) of Webb City, Missouri; one daughter, Casandra Slichter (Tim) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two brothers, Dale Hamilton of Carthage, Missouri, and David Chrisman of Joplin, Missouri; one stepbrother, Virgil Denayer Jr. of Aurora, Missouri; three sisters, Kathryn Smith of Carthage, Missouri, Donna Baker of Carterville, Missouri, and Barbara Hunziker of Joplin, Missouri; six grandchildren, Sally Cannizzaro, Amy McLane, Allen Kean, Zach Talley, Tyler Talley, and Alyssa Talley; and five great grandchildren, Ivory, Caiden, Aaric, Nicholas, and Alex.
Phyllis was preceded in death by one son, Grant Magee; her parents, Fred and Pauline Hamilton; one brother, Roy Hamilton; one stepbrother, Doug Denayer; and three sisters, Susie Nally, Carolyn Brewer, and Connie Chrisman.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 26, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri, and then her Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m.
