Nelson Wells, 85, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 9, 2023, at his home. Nelson was born July 27, 1938, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of the late James Wells and Jessie (Smith) Wells. He owned and operated Wells Painting and Wells Mobile Home Park for 30 plus years. Nelson married Lucille “Tenny” Lovell on June 8, 1962, in Vandalia, Illinois; she preceded him in death on August 22, 2019. He was a member of the Joplin Masonic Lodge 435, and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Mosque in Springfield, Missouri. Nelson enjoyed playing BINGO, going to the casino, singing, and spending time with his family. Nelson was known for his wonderful personality and always being in a good mood.
Survivors include two sons, James Wells (Rene), Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, and Aaron Wells (Mary), Carthage, Missouri; two daughters, Heather Worley (Daniel), Carthage, Missouri, and Mary Young (Andy), Carthage, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters; and many extended family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Faith Mullen and Tenny Mullen, two brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. The burial will follow the service in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
