Mary Kathryn Smith, 85, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Kathryn was born in Granby, Missouri on August 5, 1938, to Fred L. Hamilton and Pauline Bertha (Russow) Denayer. She was a homemaker and lived in the area since 1948. She was extremely active in the Kendricktown Methodist Church and was a member of the Kendricktown Ladies Community Club.
Kathryn was united in marriage to Donald D. Smith on April 29, 1953, at the First Baptist Church in Carthage; he preceded her in death on September 20, 2019.
She is survived by two sons, Donald L. Smith (Dianna), Dean Smith (Ellen); daughter Nancy Krummel (Charles) all of Carthage, Missouri; two brothers Dale Hamilton of Carthage, David Chrisman, of Joplin; two sisters Donna Baker (Wayne) of Carterville, and Barbara Huntziker (Greg) of Duquesne, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Shaun Smith (Michelle), Keith Smith (Taria), Dustin Smith (Kelsie), Julia Rine (Joshua), Kimberly Chriswell (Barry), Sarah Prescott, and Tyler Smith; and 15 great grandchildren, Noah Krummel, Alexis Smith, Brooklyn Smith, Alyssa Smith, Destenie Smith, Avery Smith, Devin Smith, Madison Chriswell, Emma Chriswell, Seth Chriswell, Magnolia Chriswell, Adelyn Smith, Kaylee Smith, Isaiah Rine, and Macy Rine.
Kathryn is preceded in death by a brother, Roy Hamilton; four sisters, Phyllis, Carolyn, Susie, and Connie; and one sister-in-law, Marie Hamilton.
There will be a funeral service at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home. A visitation will be held the previous evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home. The burial will be at Fasken Cemetery following the service.
