Marvin E. Hayes of rural Sarcoxie passed away at home on Sunday, August 7, 2022.  Marvin was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Shattuck, OK to Henry E. and Katherine L. (Best) Hayes.

Marvin married Barbara Riffle on May 22, 1955.  She survives along with their children, Jane Vaughn (Tommy) of Sarcoxie, Marla Eichelberger (Jeff) of Hydro, OK, Cathy Dunn (Archie) of Carthage, Sam Hayes (Karen) of Wentworth, Susan Adams (Kevin) of Carthage, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is brother Carl Hayes of Lavern, OK, sister-in-law Judy Nine from Roswell, NM, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin was a farmer starting out in Oklahoma in 1955.  Marvin and Barbara moved their family in 1963 to their current farm here in southwest Missouri.  While always raising cattle and baling hay, Marvin also raised a variety of different crops including green beans, cabbage and even ducks for a short time.

Marvin loved his family deeply.  Spending Sundays with them at the monthly “Birthday Dinners” was a highlight for him.  The only thing Marvin loved more than Barbara and his family was the Lord Jesus Christ. He accepted Jesus as his Savior in 1968 at a Lane Adam’s Crusade in Carthage, Missouri. He was a strong Christian and encouraged his family and many others to accept Christ and follow Him.  He was the president of the Carthage chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship in the mid-1970s. He held his faith to the end and showed his family how to finish the race.

Marvin will be missed by his family, but they rejoice in knowing that he is with his Savior and many family members who have gone before him, including his son Terry Lynn, who was lost in a farming accident in 1964.

A service will be held at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 10:00 am. A visitation will be held the evening before on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 6:00-7:00 pm at Ulmer Funeral Home.  Interment at Diamond Cemetery following the service.
