Lois Virginia ‘Christian’ Hill

Lois Virginia “Christian” Hill, 79, passed away at her home in Carthage, Mo., on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, from metastatic breast cancer. Lois was born July 11, 1939 in Taney County, Mo., to James Emanuel and Ethel Merie “Hodge” Christian.

Lois married Daniel Arthur Hill on Feb. 2, 1958; he survives. Lois is also survived by her three daughters Susan Henson of Joplin, Mo., Tammie Kinman (Gordon) of Granby, Mo., and Angela Scott (Buddy) of Carthage, Mo.; her daughter-in-law Marietta Hill of Texas; nine grandsons: Shane, Stevie, Nathan, Dustin, Boe, Jedidiah, Matt, Kevin, Dan; and seven granddaughters: Shantell, Danielle, Kyra, Stacey, Lacey, Breann, Amanda and 17 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Additionally Lois is survived by several children of her heart: Marsha Still (Larry) of Carthage, Mo., Larry Lane (Valorie) of Tulsa, Okla., and Steve Carter of Granby, Mo.  

The family wishes to provide a special thank you to Lois’s special caregivers who assisted with her last days. Shantell Dixson, granddaughter, of Wentworth, Mo., Brigit McDonald of Neosho, Mo., and June Subbert of Joplin, Mo.

Lois was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Arthur Hill, Jr., her parents James and Ethel Christian and her siblings: Opal Merie and George Collins, Melvin Lee and Edna Flodell Christian, Lenard Earl Christian, Mary Louise and David McClure, James Junior Christian, Harice Fay and Frankie Mae Christian, Clarice May and Robert Gregg, Robert Cecil Christian and Dorothy Ann Christian.

Lois attended Branson High School class of 1958. She spent most of her career as a LPN. She retired in 2000 from McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage after 22 years where she served in Intensive Care and Outpatient Surgery Care. She raised her four children and was married to Dan for 60 years. Lois enjoyed hosting family and friends at the lake and enjoyed word puzzles, games and reading.

Celebration of Life Services will be held for Lois at Christ’s Church of Oronogo, Student Ministries Center North, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 meal to follow, officiant Nathan Scott (grandson). Interment at Mitchell Cemetery, Jasper, Mo., will be at a later date.
