Larry Leroy Moorehouse, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023, in Glendale, California. Known for his kindness and wisdom, Larry was born on January 24, 1938, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of the late Andy Moorehouse and Helene (Horton) Moorehouse.
Larry was a proud graduate of Carthage High School’s class of 1955. After graduation, he served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He served on the atomic submarine USS Triton-in New London, Conn. While in the Navy, he would meet his future wife Patricia Long. Larry and Patricia would marry on August 9, 1958, in Scotia, New York. His work ethic was steadfast as he transitioned into civilian life. Larry worked at the CWEP Power Plant as Power Plant Manager for 17 years in his hometown of Carthage, Missouri. Not one to rest on his laurels, Larry dedicated seven years to the Grand River Dam Authority as Plant Superintendent in Pryor, Oklahoma. Larry concluded his professional journey at the City of Glendale, California as Plant Superintendent for 20 years, until his retirement.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia Moorehouse, of Glendale, California. His legacy will also live on through his daughter, Susan McNeely of Claremore, Oklahoma. Larry was a cherished grandfather to Stephanie Risalvato (Brady) of Aubrey, Texas, Courtney Moorehouse (Tyler), of Justin, Texas, Shannon Bording (JT) of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Tara McNeely (Blake), of Tulsa, Oklahoma. His great-grandson, James Bording, will carry forward the stories of his great-grandfather’s kindness and wisdom. Also surviving are three sister in-laws, Mary Crounse, Scotia, New York, Ann Moorehouse, Carl Junction, Missouri, and Doris Moorehouse, Carthage, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeff Moorehouse, three brothers, Ray “Moose” Moorehouse, Robert “Bob” Moorehouse, and Ronald Moorehouse, and his sister, Penny Coates. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
Graveside services will be held at 10 am Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Park Cemetery, Carthage, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm Friday, October 27, 2023, at Knell Mortuary.
