John Wesley West, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, in Carthage, Missouri. Born on October 5, 1953, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of the late Floyd and Dorothy (Tippett) West. John’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, thoughtfulness, and the joy of simple pleasures. John married the love of his life, Ruth Nichols, on May 9, 1981, in Carthage, and together they had two children; Rustin West, Carthage, Missouri, and Andrea Chatman, and her husband Dan, Webb City, Missouri.

Throughout his life, John was known for his kind heart and thoughtful nature. He extended his caring demeanor into his professional life, first as a mechanic at Dyno Nobel, where he was admired for his skill and dedication. Later, he transitioned into a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for New Directions in Joplin, Missouri, where he provided compassionate care to those in need. John’s interests reflected his love for life and family.

He was an avid Harley rider, yet nothing compared to the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, Amya, Danea, A’sha, and Dantanette Chatman. His eyes would light up with joy at every opportunity to share in their lives and adventures.

In addition to his immediate family, John leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his great-grandchild, Leilani Robinson; His brothers, Jim West Nowata, Oklahoma, and Larry West (Illene), Bartlesville, Oklahoma. and his sister, Cheryl Tallman (Les), Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and sister-in-law Marilyn West, Copan, Oklahoma, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Mendel and Denzil “Lee” West.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, July 25. 2024, at the Knell Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Mt Washington Cemetery Lenapah, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
