Franklin Hans Ytell, known affectionately as Hans to his friends and family, passed away peacefully just before dawn on November 10, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri. Born on January 17, 1956, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Hans was a man whose life was marked by kindness, a big heart, loyalty and a faith-filled spirit. Hans attended Carthage schools with the class of 1974. His early education laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service. Hans answered the call to protect and help others as a firefighter and paramedic, roles in which he demonstrated courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his community. He had a profound impact on many people, loved a good joke and a funny story.
Hans was a partner in Ytell Auction Service and a lead member of Jasper County Trial Judge M. Keithley Williams’ court team. Beyond his professional endeavors, Hans was a grateful member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he found solace and strength in his faith. His belief was a powerful force that guided him throughout his life and provided comfort to those around him. Hans’s love for the world around him was evident in his passion for woodworking and photography. He had an uncanny way of capturing moments of beauty and tranquility that many overlook. He found joy in the simplicity of nature, whether he was bird watching, fishing, or being outdoors. These interests allowed him to connect with the world in a meaningful way.
This past year, Hans developed a social media platform using his legal knowledge and perspective to share information with his followers about local governance in the City of Carthage. His goal was to communicate facts and strive to make Carthage a better place.
Family was the cornerstone of Hans’s life. He is survived by his loving sister, Beth Kang (Chris), and cherished cousins, Jack Sandridge (Kathy), Mark Sandridge (Karen), Jeannie Marsaglia (John), Sherry Erickson, Debbie Cleaver (Price), Tricia Sandridge (Jason) and Paul Ytell. Hans will be missed by his Swedish cousins Sara Ytell, Wivianne Pihlstrom, Anna Ytell and Marten Ytell. His presence will also be deeply missed by his loving dog, Rigby. Hans had countless friends including Luetta, his special caregiver Rochelle, Trina and neighbors Carole, Lea and John. The legacy of love Wayne and Elaine instilled in Hans lives on in the lives he touched.
