David Lee Shaw, 65, Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, June 20, 2023, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. David was born December 5, 1957, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of Marvin Lee Shaw and Barbara Ann (Landers) Shaw Miller. He was a proud member of the Jasper High School Class of 1976 and Jasper FFA alumni. David married Joyce Gaydou on May 15, 1992, in Carthage, Missouri. He worked for the Jasper County Highway Department for 20 years as an equipment operator and also worked as a cattle farmer. David was a member of the Missouri State and Jasper County Beef Producers and president of Hackney Cemetery in Carthage. He was a Christian by faith. David could put a smile on anyone’s face with his sincere care, his ornery personality, and sense of humor. He loved working on the farm, welding, and fixing anything he could. David was always looking for new scenery and never took the main highways anywhere. He was known for being a very proud uncle to his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who he thought of as his own.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Joyce Shaw; two sisters, Patricia Duncan (Tinker), Konoma, Missouri, and Marsha Anderson (Tom), Crystal City, Missouri; a brother, Monte Miller (Tammi), Jasper, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Gary Gaydou (Jean), Monett, Missouri, Ellis Gaydou (Debbie), Wentworth, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Judy Wampler (Gary), Carthage, Missouri, Beverly Jenkins (Gary), Halfway, Missouri, and Donna Willis (Charlie), Harrisonville, Missouri; his cousins, Leon Shaw (Mary), Republic, Missouri, Michelle Vasquez (Joe), Hazlet, Texas, and Robert Landers, Durant, Oklahoma; his uncle, Carl Shaw, Jasper, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Lee Shaw; his mother, Barbara Ann Miller; his stepfather, Jerry Miller; and a cousin, Bev Baker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. The burial will follow at Hackney Cemetery, Carthage. The family will receive friends from 10 am – 11 am before the service. Memorial gifts are suggested to Hackney Cemetery in care of Knell Mortuary.
