Bernita George, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 19, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri. Bernita was born March 22, 1936, in Mariental, Kansas to John Graft and Josephine Werth. She moved from Garden City, Kansas to Carthage, Missouri twenty years ago with her husband to retire. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. In her spare time, Bernita enjoyed quilting, growing flowers, shopping trips with her daughter, and meals with her friends.
Bernita was united in marriage to Dannell George October 6, 1956, in Garden City, Kansas; he preceded her in death January 28, 2007.
Bernita is survived by two sons, Lionel George (Cyndi) of Cimarron, Kansas and Larry George of Denver, Colorado; a daughter, Shiela Ady (Mark) of Carthage, Missouri; and three grandchildren, Sheena Ady, Eliza George, and Joshua George.
Bernita is preceded in death by her husband, Dannell; a daughter, Tanji George (August 28, 1971); her parents, John and Josephine Graft; four brothers, Victor, Justin, Ted, and M.G.; and five sisters, Armina, Pauline, Thelma, Henrietta, and Delephine.
Per Bernita’s wishes, she will be cremated prior to services.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025, beginning with the Rosary. As per Bernita’s wishes, her cremains will be interred in Garden City, Kansas.
