Barbara Jean Williams, age 80, affectionately known as “Jean” to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Joplin Gardens, Joplin, Missouri. Born on March 4, 1944, in Carthage, Missouri, to the late Ben Marsden and Lois (Cupp) Marsden, Jean’s life was a testament to her loving nature, faith-filled spirit, and friendly demeanor that touched the hearts of everyone she met.

Jean was a proud 1962 graduate of Carthage High School, where she excelled in academics and sports. Her professional journey led her to serve as a dedicated secretary for various churches and schools in Kentucky, Missouri and Kansas. These positions allowed her to be strongly connected in her communites. Jean married Harold “Cliff” Williams on November 9, 1962, in Carthage, Missouri, who preceded her in death on March 30, 2014.

A long-standing member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin, Jean’s faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She embraced her role as a pastor’s wife with grace and enthusiasm, actively participating in the church’s operations and finding joy in various bible studies and church ministries. Jean’s involvement in the church was not just a duty but a calling that she fulfilled with unwavering devotion. Jean’s zest for life was evident in her hobbies as well. An avid tennis player and golfer, she enjoyed the nuances of games and the camaraderie of her fellow players. Her love for conversation was also well-known, as she cherished long talks on the phone with friends and family, sharing stories, laughter, and support. Everyone knew Jean was always just a phone call away.

Jean’s legacy is carried on by her loving children, Robin Huston (Brian) of Oak Grove, Missouri, Chad Williams (Melissa) of Oronogo, Missouri, and Matt Williams (Emily) of Crestwood, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Blake Williams, Adam Williams (Kylie), Taylor Gridley (Austin), Nathan Huston, Lauren Huston, Landon Williams, and Gavin Williams; her great-grandchildren, Adlie and Kinsley Williams; her sister, Ginger Richardson; and many extended family and friends. Jean was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lavon Thompson and Linda Lawson, who welcomed her with open arms to her heavenly home.
