Barbara Allen “Barb” Sunderland, 88, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at the Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Barb was born on September 26, 1933, in Carthage, Missouri, the daughter of Leslie and Myrtle (Hatfield) Burt. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1951. She married Dick Sunderland on August 24, 1956, in Jasper, Missouri. Barb worked for Lewis Implement for 32 years, Lawrence Implement, and then for First Security Home Savings. She was a member of the Center Point Christian Church, and the sexton of Fasken Cemetery for many years. She enjoyed gardening and Gospel Music. Barb will be remembered for her generosity and big heart; she was a care giver for many people in the area over the years and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include her husband of almost 66 years, Dick; a brother, Gordon Burt, Martin, Tennessee; and a sister Frances Heiskell, Lockwood, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Roger Burt; and two sisters, Norma Jean Hill, and Lois Hoenshell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 14, 2022, at the Knell Mortuary with burial to follow in the Fasken Cemetery. Barb will lie in state on Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm for anyone who would like to pay their respects and sign her book.
