CARTHAGE, Mo. — The mother of suspected killer Gavino McJunkins-Macias, 23, Carthage, was arrested by Carthage Police at her workplace, St. Ann’s Catholic Church, today on a fugitive from justice charge.

Miami County, Kansas authorities have charged Heather Annette McJunkins (DOB 1978) with obstructing the investigation into the murder of her daughter-in-law Kenia Lopez, 24, whose body was found June 13 in an abandoned camper at 600 Main Street in Carthage.

Arraignment on the fugitive from out of state charge is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Wednesday before Judge Joseph Hensley in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Details of the allegations against McJunkins were not included in the Jasper County Circuit Court online records, but the Miami County, Kansas court set her bond at $100,000 cash or surety.

Miami County authorities allege Gavino McJunkins-Macias murdered Lopez, then took her body to Carthage. A probable cause statement filed in Jasper County Circuit Court described the murder as “violent.”

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s office filed an abandonment of a corpse charge against McJunkins-Macias.
