During a video arraignment this morning in Jasper County Circuit Court, Heather Annette McJunkins (DOB 1978) waived extradition and will be turned over to Miami County, Kansas authorities to face a charge of obstructing the investigation into the June 13 murder of her daughter-in-law Kenia Lopez, 24, Carthage.

McJunkins’ son, Gavino McJunkins-Macias, 23, Carthage, is being held in Miami County on charges of second degree murder.

Carthage police officers arrested McJunkins on a fugitive from out of state warrant Tuesday morning at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, her place of employment.

Miami County set McJunkins’ bond at $100,000 cash or surety.

Kenia Lopez’ body was found in an abandoned camper at 600 Main Street in Carthage. McJunkins-Macia was arrested on a Jasper County charge of abandonment of a corpse.

Miami County authorities claim McJunkins-Macias brutally murdered his wife then drove the body back to Carthage.
