Round up the whole family for a night of entertainment Saturday, August 10, in Carl Junction. Your participation will help support Carl Junction’s new playground project, The Power of Play. The park’s completion of phase one this month will fulfill Carl Junction School teachers, staff, and administrators’ vision for a safe and fully inclusive playground for all students in 2nd – 6th grade. Upon completion of this playground, planning will begin for phase two, the playground for kindergarten and first grade students.
“We want to help make that dream a reality,” says Chad Isaacs, owner of Stone’s Corner Pharmacy in Webb City and Joplin. Stone’s Corner Pharmacy and the Carl Junction Chamber of Commerce are co-hosting the Movie Night in the Park event. “Our event will bring families and community together with fun, safe activities before school kicks off.”
Festivities start at Frank Dean Sports Complex in Carl Junction around six in the evening, as two bands perform for your listening pleasure—Flashing Lights and Sons of Stereo. Community Spotlight videos will follow says Isaacs. “The videos will highlight the efforts of three local individuals who contribute their time and talent because it’s the right thing to do.” Around 8 pm event participants can enjoy a special outdoor screening of The Greatest Showman, the hit movie that highlights P.T. Barnum’s efforts to give meaning to the lives of people who were different. The movie will play on a huge LED video wall. Isaacs encourages everyone to bring their lawn chairs and blankets.
Food trucks including Jack’s Ice Cream and inflatables for the kids round out the night. “Party Adventures is also bringing a jousting ring and Velcro wall guaranteed to entertain every kid, big and small,” Isaacs reports. Party Adventures will donate half of their proceeds to The Power of Play. In addition, the profits from special T-shirt sales will also be donated to The Power of Play.
