SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will hold its 30th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, May 14 for families facing hunger across the Ozarks.

Stamp Out Hunger is the country’s largest single-day food drive that provides local residents with a simple way to help their neighbors facing hunger. Donations made in southwest Missouri will benefit Ozarks Food Harvest’s food pantries and feeding sites spread across 28 counties.

To participate, residents can leave a bag of nonperishable food next to their mailboxes on the morning of May 14. Letter carriers will collect the donations as they deliver mail along their postal routes and food will then be distributed to local hunger-relief organizations.

“United Way believes in the power of collaboration,” said Greg Burris, president and CEO of United Way of the Ozarks. “Because of our partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers and Ozarks Food Harvest, collections made during the Stamp Out Hunger food drive will help children and families throughout our community who are experiencing food insecurity.”

With 1 in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults in the Ozarks facing hunger, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive makes a big impact by providing thousands of meals in local communities.

“The Stamp Out Hunger food drive comes at a great time as families continue to deal with the increased cost of food,” said Bart Brown, president/CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “We are so grateful for all of the residents and letter carriers that help families facing hunger in the community.”

Due to COVID-19, the last in-person Stamp Out Hunger food drive took place in 2019. Southwest Missouri letter carriers collected more than 210,000 pounds of food for distribution to local hunger-relief organizations during the last food drive.
