Eighth confirmed case of COVID-19 in Jasper County; council to consider stay-at-home order

On Friday, April 3, 2020, the Jasper County Health Department confirmed the eighth case of COVID-19 in Jasper County.

The individual is a person in their 50’s who resides in the county. According to the release from the health department “This is not a travel related exposure.”

Identifying information will not be released to protect the patient’s right to privacy.

The Jasper County Health Department in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is working to determine any close contacts of this individual who were possibly exposed. If exposed, health officials will provide guidance to these individuals and monitor them closely for the development of symptoms.

The number of cases in the county is likely to rise as more testing becomes available. In Carthage, the city council is considering issuing a stay-at-home order during a special council meeting to be held at 4 p.m. today.
