Table makes for quicker recovery after hip replacements
Patients getting hip replacements at Mercy Hospital Carthage will have a much smoother recovery thanks to a pair of grants from K. D. & M. L. Steadley Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, and McCune-Brooks Healthcare Foundation.
The grant funds were used to purchase a Hana® table, which enables surgeons to perform less invasive hip replacements. On the Hana® table, a patient can be positioned in a way that allows surgeons to approach from the front of the body instead of the typical approach from the side or back, meaning less muscle and tendon is disturbed.
Traditional hip replacement surgeries can require patients to be in the hospital for up to three days, but the Hana® table often reduces inpatient stays to only one day.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to get this piece of equipment that will allow us to provide our patients the latest technique in hip arthroplasty with the quickest recovery time,” said Donnie Harnar, manager of surgical services.
Mercy Hospital Carthage is the only provider of orthopedic surgery in the Carthage community and also serves patients from the surrounding area. The first hip replacement surgery on the Hana table in Carthage is scheduled for Sept. 10.
