The Ozark Gateway Master Gardeners have awarded scholarships to two local students.
The recipients of the 2019 Ozark Gateway Master Gardeners Horticulture Scholarships are:
$250 for Lydia Rockers of Carthage, Mo, to study Food Science at Oklahoma State University.
Eli Meyer of Sarcoxie, Mo also received $250 to study Turf and Landscape Management at Ozarks Technical Community College.
The awards were presented by Chuck Evans, Ozark Gateway Master Gardeners president and Robert Balek, MU Extension horticulture specialist and Master Gardener coordinator.
The awardees submitted their applications in May. The scholarships are based on merit. The goal of the scholarship program is to bring awareness of careers in the horticulture industry, as well as fulfillment of the Master Gardener mission – Helping others learn to grow.
The Master Gardener program is a popular and successful statewide volunteer education organization administered through University of Missouri Extension. The organization’s goal is to train gardeners who are willing to share their knowledge with others. Master Gardeners become volunteers of University of Missouri Extension and donate hours for community educational projects in horticulture.
