Heather Knowles, a Carthage native and 1989 CHS graduate, will be sharing works and signing copies of her new book of poetry on Saturday, July 13. The book, titled “Jesse James, Johnny Cash, and Other Lovers,” is a collection of selected poems from Knowles’ 30-year journey as a poet. The event will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, at Skinner’s Pottery Studio, 19099 Aspen Road, Diamond, Mo.
After high school Knowles continued her education in Iowa, completing her BA in Communications: English (Writing) in 1993 from Graceland University. Over the years she has published nine chapbooks of poetry, and given hundreds of performances and workshops across the country. She began the Des Moines Poetry Slam in 2000, and was the active Slam Master for 10 years. Knowles has continued to be a mentor and advocate for the slam which still happens every month in Des Moines.
The event will begin at 2 p.m., and will be reading, discussion, Q & A, book sale and signing for anyone interested. Books are $10 each, and are also always available for purchase on Amazon.
