Carthage man charged with child abuse, allegedly punched child multiple times

The first appearance in Jasper County Circuit Court for Luis Aroldo Cordova-Mendez, (DOB 1985) who allegedly punched his child multiple times is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 24.

Cordova-Mendez, who is charged with felony child abuse, is free after posting a $10,000 cash bond.

According to the probable cause statement, three witnesses told Carthage Police that Cordova-Mendez had struck the child and had also kicked him and slapped him on the face on numerous occasions.

As a condition of his bond, Cordova-Mendez is not to come into contact with anyone under age 18.
