Samantha Benhumea was crowned Maple Leaf Queen for 2019 at the big pageant Sunday night at the Carthage R-9 Auditorium.
She will be joined by the Royalty, Emily Egger and Taylor Jones, as they preside over the variety of events that make up Maple Leaf week and represent Carthage on area television and radio programs.
Benhumea is the daughter of Carmen Topete and wants to be a general pediatrician upon completing college.
Benhumea won the talent and on-stage question portions of Sunday’s pageant.
The talent she showed was cake decorating, showing a time-lapse video of her decorating a cake while serving that cake to the judges during the program.
Other winners at the pageant were Eggers, who won the interview competition, which was held earlier Sunday, and Elizabeth Smith, who won the on-stage modeling competition.
These three will be joined by the 2019 Maple Leaf Princess Kennedy Baptista, Prince Israel Saba, Little Miss Charli Darling LeMasters and Little Mister, Manuel Alexander Prieto, who were all crowned during a pageant earlier Sunday afternoon.
They will all ride a float in the Maple Leaf Parade on Saturday, Oct. 19.
