Abby Ann Lassen of Tulsa, Okla., a former Carthage High School graduate, has been named as the 2020 recipient of the First Baptist Church, Carthage Howard Memorial Scholarship awarded by the Missouri Baptist Foundation (MBF). The MBF will transfer $2,000 into Lassen’s student account at the University of Missouri – Kansas City toward her upcoming fall semester’s enrollment.
Each applying student prepared an essay to answer the question, “How do I put feet to my Christian service and how will a Christian Higher Education help accomplish my goals?” Lassen said, “I feel called to be a neonatal nurse practitioner and in this calling I would extending a hand, be a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and a heart to feel with for my patients and their families.”
MBF President, Dr. Neil Franks remarked, “We believe in Christian higher education, and we want to make it slightly more affordable to at least a few worthy Missouri Baptist students. We are very happy for Ms. Lassen, and are delighted we can encourage her in her journey.”
More than 50 students applied for just thirteen scholarships being offered by the MBF this year. The MBF board of trustees has a desire to help students with an interest in a Christian higher education knowing that it can make an eternal difference in advancing the Gospel.
