Lillian Marie Hornback, 97, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, where she had been for a short time following a broken leg.
Lillian was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Sarcoxie, Missouri, the daughter of the late Thomas W. Lambeth and Lora (Whisner) Lambeth. She was a 1940 graduate of Sarcoxie High School and then attended Joiner Business College for two years. Lillian married Paul L. Hornback on May 5, 1945, in Independence, Kansas; he preceded her in death on October 9, 2013. Lillian and her husband, Paul, owned and operated Hornback Appliance in Carthage for 44 years. She worked for United Missouri Bank for 30 years and retired from their administrative department.
Lillian was a kind, generous, compassionate and loving soul who will live eternally in the hearts and memories of those who loved her. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, flowers and being a homemaker. She loved and adored her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews, friends and fellow church members at Fairview Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Donald Hornback, Carthage; grandchildren, Jeff Stout (wife Melinda), Reeds, Jonathan Stout (wife Jana), Joplin, Brent Hornback (wife Sandra), Omaha, NE, Justin Hornback, Omaha, NE; nine great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Mitts; a son, Roger Hornback; a granddaughter, a great-grandson, a great-great-grandson, four brothers, Nelson Lambeth, Noel Lambeth, Leroy Lambeth, and Billy Lambeth; and one sister, Lucille Mullens.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, June 5, 2020, from 3-6 p.m. at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Avilla Cemetery, Reeds, Missouri.
