George Cherry, 91 passed away April 13, 2020, at his home in Carthage, Mo.
George was born May 9, 1928, in Kendricktown, Mo., to Walter and Minnie “Simpson” Cherry. George was a lifetime Carthage resident and worked for the Joplin Globe in the composing room floor for 30 years.
George was united in marriage to Barbara Dickson Octob. 18, 1958, at Pleasant Hill Church near Carl Junction, Mo. She survives.
George is survived by one daughter; Pattie Hastings (Kenny) of Mt. Vernon, two sons; Stan Cherry (Sharron) of Carthage and Jim Cherry (Debbie) of Nixa, Mo., 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
George is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Irene Huff and one brother Frank Cherry.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Ulmer Funeral Home. A come and go visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to services to comply with the COVID-19 mandates. Contributions can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in George’s memory.
