Luella Elizabeth Darland passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday the 18th of March at Wedgewood Gardens Assisted Living in Branson West, MO at the age of 98.
Born in 1921 in Rose Hill, Iowa to William and Verena Rutherford. Her parents were farmers and her father ran a successful sawmill as well. Luella had one sister, Beulah Green and one brother, Walter Rutherford. In December 1940, Luella married Warren Darland and they had two children, Connie and Larry. Luella and Warren opened a tailoring shop inside a successful men’s store in Oskaloosa, Iowa. After they retired, they moved to Carthage, MO and Luella was an active volunteer at the Senior Center in Carthage and loved bingo and socializing, enjoyed good food and animals, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She was active in her church and volunteer activities until she moved to Wedgewood Gardens.
She is survived by her daughter Connie Emmons of Kimberling City, MO; daughter-in-law, Lenora Darland of Carthage, MO; and grandchildren: Lynda Hammers of Billings, MO, Mike Emmons of Auxvasse, MO, Amy Darland of Parsons, KS, Danny Darland of Carthage, MO, and Charlene Smith of Carthage, MO, and their families. Luella had numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents William and Verena, brother Walter, sister Beulah, husband Warren Darland, and son Larry Darland.
A family graveside service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Luella Darland may be made to Tri-Lakes Humane Society of Reeds Spring, Missouri.
