James Alexander Still Jr., “Jim”, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at the age of 97 in Carthage, Missouri. Born on August 30, 1926, in Jasper, Missouri, to the late James Alexander Still Sr. and Esther Nadeane Still (Stith), Jim was a beacon of kindness and generosity, touching the lives of many with his handy skills and warm heart.

Jim’s life was rich with love and dedication to his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Still (Van Wey), and his siblings, Harvey Still, Leland Still, Margaret Manley, Mermyl Wyant, Betty James, and Nancy Still.

Jim’s legacy continues through his sons, Allen Still (Nila) and Doyle Still (Glenda), his brother, Richard Still, and his sisters, Elizabeth Wilson, Connie Barclay, Bonibel Wilson, and Maribeth Ward. Jim was also a cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather to six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, who will miss his gentle spirit and guiding presence.

Professionally, Jim served his community as a custodian for the Carthage R-9 School District at Pleasant Valley, where he was known for his reliability and meticulous care of the facilities. His diligent work ensured that students and staff had a clean and welcoming environment in which to learn and teach.

Jim’s dedication extended beyond his professional life into his spiritual journey. He was a very active member of the Fairview Christian Church, contributing his time and talent wherever needed. Jim’s knack for maintaining church vehicles and air-conditioning systems was only surpassed by his passion for teaching various classes, where he shared his wisdom and faith with others.

Those who knew Jim would describe him as a man who was not only kind, handy, and generous but also someone who exemplified the love of Christ in his everyday actions. His ability to fix almost anything was matched by his willingness to help anyone in need.

Jim’s involvement in his church community reflected his deep commitment to service and his belief in giving back. The impact of his work and his spirit of volunteerism have left an indelible mark on the Fairview Christian Church and its congregants.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Fairview Christian Church with burial to follow in the Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 am to service time June 20, 2024, at the Fairview Christian Church. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
