“It was nice to see Dalen Moore and Dagan Sappington both back in the lineup heading into Districts,” said Carthage Wrestling Coach, Kenny Brown. As Carthage concluded its regular season last Thursday night with only one loss to Neosho, Brown continued to praise team numbers the benefits of good practice partners. “Our depth continues to pay off for us as a team. Moore and Sappington finally made it back after injuries, and luckily we’ve had Selvin Estrada and Eli Sneed able to step in and wrestle well for us. We were without two other starters against Buffalo, Victor Salazar and Trulyn Kendrick. Creed Lambeth and Andrew Holden both answered the call and came out and both wrestled well despite losing. I’m looking forward to what both of those young men bring to this team the next two years.”
“It was a fun dual to coach and watch. It came down to the last two matches. Heading into the heavyweight match, we only led by two points. Brener Ocana was facing a wrestler that pinned him last year. For most, the outcome of the dual was still in doubt, but Brener came through like he has all year and Braxdon Tate just put the exclamation point to it.”
Carthage heads to Ray-Pec for Class 4 District action on Friday evening, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9, with the State tournament concluding the season on February 13th-15th.
