CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Tiger Wrestling team hosted the Bolivar Liberators January 11th in an epic battle on the mats. Freshman Caden Groom began the night with a pin over Bolivar’s Madden Ross in the second period of the 113 lb. match. The win served to fuel the fire for the Tigers, as Wyatt Hole (120), Emerson Ixcol (126), Grady Huntley (132), and Bradyn Tate (138) all put up six points each for their matches. Carthage forfeited at 144 lbs., and Bolivar recorded two falls at 150 lbs. over Carthage’s Israel Perez and 157 lbs. over Kort Reynolds. Lenny Escobar (165 lbs.) brought the Tigers back on track with a pin over Sam Harless, while the momentum shifted back to the Liberators at 175 lbs. with Mason McCurry’s fall over Joshua Hill. Alexander Salas-Marquez retaliated with a pin of his own, though, and three more open weight classes at 215, 285 and 106 lbs. for the Liberators sealed the Tiger victory. The JV Tigers struggled to find their footing on the evening, however, with their only two victories coming from 190 lbers Latrell Abbassi and Lenny Escobar.
The Lady Tiger wrestlers saw tournament action a couple of days later at the Willard Lady Tiger Pride Battle. Five ladies from Carthage competed in this year’s tournament, with freshman Irish Lee bringing home an impressive 3rd place finish at 130 lbs. Mischa Drackert finished 5th at 100 lbs., Maylee Brown 4th at 110 lbs., Emmy Hernandez 7th at 125 lbs. and Arianna Medrano 8th at 140 lbs.
