The Carthage Wrestling team showed a dominant performance in Thursday night’s double dual at Springfield Central High School.  The Tigers saw several wins by fall during the course of the evening, with only three losses that were not the result of a forfeit.

Heading into this weekend’s COC tournament, Head Coach, Kenny Brown, highlighted a few performances on the evening. “I was pleased with how both Tanner Putt  (106) and Kip Castor(144) continue to win matches with dominant work from the top position.  I was also happy to see Grey Petticrew (150) open up with his leg attacks showing what he is capable of.” With Waynesville and Springfield Central both members of Class 4, District 3, it is equally important for district seeding to enter the competition with the best head-to-head record.

Here are the Carthage Wrestling results from our double dual with Waynesville and Springfield Central on 01/26/23 in Springfield.  Carthage is now 7-3 on the season.

The Central Ozark Conference Tournament this weekend did not disappoint with many of its matchups.

Coach Brown elaborated on what his team faced: “This will definitely be one of the tougher tournaments we take part in this year with four currently ranked teams and two others that have been in the rankings.  At 132, the tournament features the #1 ranked pound for pound kid (Zan Fugitt-Nixa).  If everyone is in the lineup at 165 that has been there this year, it features a State champion (Zar-Neosho), two runners-up (Walker-Willard and King-Carthage), a state placer (Sundlie-Ozark), and a state qualifier (Stewart-CJ) who was one match away from placing last year.  With that being said, there are some weights in the COC that are better than the State tournament.”

Brown’s observations were accurate as Nixa’s Fugitt claimed the conference title over Carthage’s Bradyn Tate at 132 lbs.  Tate, however, broke another Carthage record for the most takedowns at 132 lbs. previously held by Clay Stark with 114.  Currently at 121, Tate claimed the title held for 25 years.  At 165 lbs. Zar from Neosho battled out the championship title with Willard’s Walker, with Zar coming out victorious.  The 150 lb. championship featured Strick from Ozark (state champ 2022 at 152 lbs.) with the fall over Carthage’s Grey Petticrew.  Petticrew is now 26-8 on the season and took home the 2nd place finish at COC.  Carthage 120 pounder Grady Huntley brought home a 2nd place finish, as well, improving to 26-13 on the season. 106 lb. Tanner Putt also saw a 2nd place finish after a close 3-6 loss to Carl Junction’s Carter Fogelsong. Junior Alberto Sales (113 lbs.) and sophomore David Recinos (Heavyweight) brought home 3rd place finishes respectively.

The Tigers are in action for the last dual of the season on February 7 at 6 p.m. at Carthage High School.

Here are the Carthage Wrestling results from the COC tournament on 01/28/23 at Webb City.   Carthage next wrestles in a dual with Seneca on 02/07/22 starting at 6:00 at home.
