Leonard George “L.G.” Winans, 73, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022 in Joplin, Missouri. Leonard was born October 16, 1948 in Carthage, Missouri to Thurman Winans and Dora Belle (Skelton) Winans. Leonard was a lifetime Jasper County resident. He was in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Sargent. Leonard worked several jobs throughout his life to provide for his family. He was a farmer and also worked at Knell’s Roofing and Maneval Inc., both in Jasper, Missouri. Leonard retired from Schriebers in Carthage, Missouri. He loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing. Leonard collected all kinds of things and restored tractors.
Leonard was united in marriage to Una Marie Rutherford on October 16, 1976 in Milo, Missouri; she survives.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Una Marie Winans; a daughter, Rebecca Winans of Reeds, Missouri; two sons, Leonard Winans, Jr. of Kentucky and Justin “Bear” Winans of Jasper, Missouri; two brothers, Edward Lee Winans of Carthage, Missouri and Cecil Winans of Oronogo, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Hunter, Trapper, Chayce, Aubrey, Archer, Jaxson and Jasmine; and many beloved family and friends.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Dora Belle Winans; a sister, Martha Ellen Winans Allen; and Raymond Stump.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022. Burial will be at Jasper School Cemetery, east of Carthage, Missouri.
