CARTHAGE, Mo. — It was a night of ups and downs for the Lady Tigers when they hosted the Branson Pirates for Senior Night Tuesday in a 72-65 overtime loss.
The ups:
- Senior Sophie Shannon had a career night scoring 27 points, including going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
- Junior Kianna Yates hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to tie the score at 61, sending the home crowd into a frenzy, and the game into overtime.
- Shannon and fellow Senior Presley Probert were honored – along with their parents – after the game.
“Star of the game tonight was senior Sophie Shannon who scored a career-high 27 points on Senior Night,” said Carthage Head Coach Scott Moore. “Branson had no answer for her in the paint and she scored at will on them.
“Fellow senior Presley Probert had a good game scoring 5 points and made several good passes that led to baskets for teammates.”
The downs:
- The Tigers were down 13 points at the half after a sluggish start to the game.
- Four of five Carthage starters fouled out in overtime.
- Branson took advantage of the Tiger foul trouble with 9 of their 11 overtime points coming from the free-throw line.
- The Tigers scored only 4 overtime points, all from the free-throw line.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Yates with 19 points, Lauren Choate added 9 points, Maggie Boyd had 3 points, while Raven Probert and Landry Cochran added 1 point each.
The Lady Tigers are 11-13 on the season and 2-5 in COC. They travel to Ozark Thursday.
