Karen Sue Johnson, 81, of Carthage, MO passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 4:13 p.m., Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO. Karen was born on June 28, 1940 in Joplin, MO. She was the daughter of Jack Couch and Nadine “Sours” Couch. Karen spent most of her adult life in Carthage. She was the Administrative Services Manager of Jasper County 911 call center and managed Erickson Tax Service in Carthage. Karen was a member of P.T.O, loved cake decorating, Christmas, Halloween and candy making.
Karen was united in marriage to Ben Johnson on April 2, 1961 in Avilla, MO. He preceded in her in death August 3, 2017.
Karen is survived by two sons, Christopher Johnson and Matthew Johnson, both of Carthage; one daughter, Melissa Daugherty of Carthage; one sister, Lanna Gaines of Freeman, MO.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several foster children that were cared for over the years.
Services for Karen will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2021 at the Ulmer Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Carthage following the service.
