William-Dale Lee Nelson, 35, Carterville, Missouri, known affectionately as Billy to his friends and family, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025. He was born on September 28, 1990, in Beeville, Texas, the son of Brenda (Payne) Nelson and the late Michael Nelson. Billy was a beacon of kindness and friendliness, touching the lives of all who knew him with his thoughtful nature.
A proud 2009 graduate of Carthage High School, Billy carried the spirit of his hometown into every endeavor. He embarked on a career as a truck driver, a job that suited his love for travel and adventure. His work not only allowed him to explore the open road but also to form lasting friendships and associations along the way.
Billy’s zest for life was evident in his numerous interests. He was an avid golfer, finding peace and camaraderie on the greens. Fishing was more than a hobby; it was a passion that brought him closer to nature’s serene beauty. The lake was his refuge, a place where he could cast away the stresses of daily life and bask in the tranquility of the water. Camping trips were a staple, as Billy relished the opportunity to sleep under the stars and wake up to the sunrise in the great outdoors. Adventure was Billy’s middle name, and he seized every chance to embark on new journeys, whether they were spontaneous road trips or meticulously planned excursions. Above all, Billy cherished his family. They were the cornerstone of his life, the source of his deepest joy and pride. His love for them was boundless, and he dedicated himself to creating a legacy of warmth and love that would endure.
Survivors include his mother, Brenda Nelson; his siblings, Elizabeth Diloreto (Taddeo), Tracy Wickstrom (Eric), Sarah Nelson, and Michael Coy, Jr. (Monica); his nephews and niece, Gavin Coy, Nicholas Smith, Tanner Diloreto, Axton Diloreto, Eli Diloreto, Malachi Diloreto, Amias Welch, Riley Wickstrom, Astrid Wickstrom, and Ezra Wickstrom; his uncles, Rick Payne (Kathy), and Dennis Payne (Twila); his close friend, Mariah Conway; and many extended family and friends.
Per Billy’s wishes, there was cremation. The family will hold a celebration of life at 6 pm, Monday, December 22, 2025, at Forest Park Church, 2535 Grand Ave, Carthage, Missouri 64836. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
