Justin “Bear” Winans, 43, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at his home in Jasper, Missouri.

Bear was born on May 17, 1982, in Joplin, Missouri, to Una Marie and Leonard Winans Sr. He grew up in Carthage and graduated from high school there. Bear was known for his joyful spirit and his ability to find happiness in everything he did.

He spent time working as a bouncer at a local bar in Carthage, where he enjoyed connecting with customers and making everyone feel welcome. A true outdoorsman, Bear loved hunting, fishing, and spending time on the farm. He also found satisfaction working at a butcher shop, embracing every task with pride.

Later, Bear made his home in Jasper, where he became a familiar face at Judy’s, often seen overnight, chatting with patrons and helping the staff. Bear never met a stranger—his warm, outgoing nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his sister, Rebecca Winans, and his brother, Leonard Winans Jr., as well as his beloved nieces and nephews: Hunter, Trapper, Chayce, Kori, Aubrey, Archer, Jaxson, and Jasmyn Winans.

Bear was preceded in death by his parents, Una Marie and Leonard Winans Sr.; two aunts, Twila Jeffcoat and Jona Rutherford; his nephew, Maverick Winans, and great-nephew, Waylon Whitton.

Bear’s big heart, easy smile, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 26th at Victory Baptist Church, 9871 County Lane 117, Carthage, MO.
