Jimmie Lee “Jim” Thomason, 62, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Jim was born January 2, 1962, in Joplin, Missouri, the son of the late James Lee Thomason and Sue Ann (Landauer) Thomason.

Jim graduated from Joplin Memorial High School in 1980 and went on to further his education at Missouri Southern State University. His passion for learning and his dedication to his field led him to complete his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Pittsburg State University. Jim’s professional career was marked by his tenure as a project manager and estimator for Goins Enterprise in Joplin, where his expertise and meticulous work were highly valued. Jim married Donna (Oetting) Maggard on April 5, 2020, in Carthage, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Thomason; his children, Adam Nolen (Bonnie), Samantha Moore (Caleb), Diona Thomason (Luis Medina), Caebra Thomason (Jarod), Jacquelyn Maggard, and Jesse Maggard; his grandchildren, Milo Nolen, Annabella Moore, Ean Moore, Alicia Cole, Booker Cole, Jabari Thomason, Sariyah Thomason, and Lola Medina; a brother, Larry Thomason (Camilo Sanchez); a sister, Pricilla Stallings (Dennis); and many extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Sam Thomason; and a sister, Nancy Thomason.

A faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Joplin, Jim’s commitment to his faith was evident in his actions and his service. He participated in numerous mission trips to places like Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, helping those in need and spreading love and compassion. His volunteer work, particularly feeding the homeless through church programs, reflected his selfless spirit and his desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Jim also contributed his time and skills to the Hearts & Hammers Club in Joplin, where he worked alongside fellow members to improve the community they all held dear. His involvement in these associations was not just a pastime but a core part of who he was—a man who believed in giving back and lifting others up.

Memorial services will be held 11 am, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Joplin, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for Missions in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
